  • Chiropractic care reduced hospitalizations by 41%.
  • Chiropractic reduced back surgeries by 32%

The above study was a retrospective claims data analysis of 1,700,000 patient records over a 4 - year period.

Medical Journal, "Orthopedics Today" Touts Chiropractic

Praise for chiropractic recently came from an unlikely source. In the February 2003 issue of the magazine "Orthopedics Today", there appeared a feature article titled, "Time to Recognize Value of Chiropractic Care? Science and Patient Satisfaction Surveys Cite Usefulness of Spinal Manipulation."

In the article, Jack Zigler, MD, orthopedic spine surgeon with the Texas Back Institute, states, "There are a lot of myths about chiropractic care. I decided to look into each of these myths, and what I found is that chiropractic education, side-by-side, is more similar to medical education than it is dissimilar. Chiropractors work for us as screeners for surgical pathology. They can do the same work-up and send the patient who has already gone through his conservative treatment and had all his diagnostic work done to the surgeon."

Additionally, Scott Haldeman, DC, MD, PhD stated, "About 10 to 12 international guidelines have suggested that there is some benefit to manipulation. If we look at their basic guidelines, manipulation has consistently been accepted by independent government and scientific bodies as being a valid form of treatment."

Andrew Cole, MD, associate clinical professor of rehabilitation medicine at the University of Washington and recent past president of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation gave the strongest overall endorsement when he said, "Overall, manipulation has the advantage of reducing pain, decreasing medication, rapidly advancing physical therapy and requiring fewer passive modalities."

Headache Relief Through Chiropractic

According to the American Chiropractic Association 14% of the public who see chiropractors presently go for headaches. For these patients the good news has gotten even better. Researchers at Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minnesota, compared chiropractic care to certain drug therapies used for tension and migraine headaches.

The study, published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, followed 218 headache sufferers who were given either chiropractic care or drug therapy or both. Pain was reduced 40 – 50% in all groups initially. However, four weeks after all care was stopped, only the chiropractic group still retained the benefits, while those who received the drug therapy lost about half of their improvement.

Meet Dr. Pascal

After 30 years in practice I realize how important it is for patients to know a little about their doctor.

I grew up in New York and attended school at the State University of New York majoring in the life sciences. After receiving my Chiropractic degree from National College of Chiropractic in 1979, I started practicing in Illinois. I have been practicing full time ever since.

Moving to Charleston, S.C., a much warmer climate, in 1993 was the best decision I have ever made. I have developed many friends through my practice and am very fortunate to be in a profession where my patients appreciate me and are always referring their friends and loved ones to my office.

My hobbies include tennis, kayaking, and weight lifting. I’ve always believed a healthy body is a gift you give yourself. I’ve been happily married since 1986 but never had any children.

I am very fortunate to be in a profession that I love. Seeing the value of Chiropractic in my own personal life as well as in the life of my family and close friends has been very rewarding. I have a practice that emphasizes getting rapid results using varied techniques depending on the patient’s condition. I strongly encourage my patients to learn and educate themselves in regards to obtaining optimum health and relief from injuries.

The office is on the provider list for just about every insurance company. I am constantly striving to learn new techniques and stay current with the latest medical advancements. Over the years I have received advanced degrees in nutrition, acupuncture, and internal disorders. Being licensed by the National Board Of Chiropractic Examiners and licensed to practice in South Carolina, New York, and Illinois enables me to treat patients using physiotherapy and rehabilitation in addition to Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy.

The office believes in giving back to the community and enjoys public service events, volunteering and fund raisers. Thank you for your interest in me and Peninsula Chiropractic.

Welcome to Peninsula Chiropractic

Welcome to Peninsula Chiropractic - located in beautiful downtown Charleston on the corner of Spring and Rutledge Streets.

We work hard to provide exceptional chiropractic care in our friendly, relaxed environment.

How do we change the world one spine at a time?
Chiropractic is a health care approach that focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure– mainly the spine—and its functioning.
Although practitioners may use a variety of treatments approaches, they primarily perform adjustments to the spine or other parts of the body with the goal of correcting alignment problems and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
During the initial visit, chiropractors typically take health history and perform a physical examination, with a special emphasis on the spine.
Other examinations or tests such as x-rays may also be performed. If chiropractic treatment is considered appropriate, a treatment plan will be developed.
Chiropractors may perform one or more of the many different types of adjustments used in chiropractic care. Given mainly to the spine, a chiropractic adjustment (sometimes referred to as a manipulation) involves using the hands or a device to apply controlled, sudden force to a joint, moving it beyond its passive range of motion.
Our therapy increases the range and quality of motion in the area being treated and to aid in restoring health.
